Signed Program

Signed program from the Russian soprano and her husband, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. The two performed a recital at Boston's Symphony Hall on March 20, 1975, with Rostropovich accompanying Vishnevskaya at the piano. Both have signed boldly across the program listing, with an inscription to collector Paul McMahon. 4 pp. Fine. 6 x 9 inches (15.3 x 23 cm).

The cellist and soprano couple defected from the Soviet Union in 1974 and settled in the United States, where Rostropovich became the music director of the National Symphony Orchestra. 

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
