Large original Lindquist photograph of the important American dancer and choreographer, signed and inscribed at the foot to Paul McMahon. Taylor is shown dancing on an outdoor stage and has penned at the foot: "To Paul from Paul Taylor." Signed on the verso by the photographer, John Lindquist. Some light edge wear and corner creases; overall fine. 11 x 14 inches (27.7 x 35.4 cm).Paul Taylor studied dance at Juilliard and assembled his first company of dancers in 1954. He performed in the 1950's with the Martha Graham Dance Company and the New York City Ballet, while also choreographing his own works. A choreographer as concerned with subject matter as he was with form, many of Taylor's pieces and movements are pointedly about something. While he may propel his dancers through space for the sheer beauty of it, he has frequently used them to illuminate such profound issues as war, piety, spirituality, sexuality, morality and mortality. His creative work lives on in the Paul Taylor Dance Company and his project Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, which highlights other American choreographers.
