Signed Photograph with Autograph Musical Quotation
Signed photograph of the American composer, cellist and conductor known for his many successful operettas. He is shown in a standing portrait by White of New York and has inscribed at the head to a relative of his assistant, Harold Sanford, at the head: "To Miss Lara Sanford with all good wishes / from Victor Herbert / Jan 1919." He has added an autograph musical quotation of two measures at the upper left, identified as from his opera Natona. Right margin trimmed affecting last digit of the autograph year, light stains and nicks along same side, else fine. 9 x 12 inches (23.3 x 30.3 cm).
Together with two unsigned original Harold Stein photographs of Harold Sanford, one standing at an NBC microphone, and one mopping his brow (perhaps after a vigorous conducting session!) 7 x 9 and 8 x 10 inches.
