"Malagueña" - Autograph Musical Quotation Signed

Autograph musical quotation from the important violinist and composer, who has penned the first six measures of the violin part from his piece Malagueña (Spanish Dances no. 1, op. 21), marked "Lento - Mélodie - Espagnole." He has signed and inscribed the quotation at the foot and dated January 28, 1886. On a small album leaf with a clipped halftone photograph of Sarasate mounted at the upper left corner. Some light edge wear and toning around the edges; overall fine. 11.25 x 8.5 inches (28.7 x 21.6 cm). Together with a postcard photograph.

Responding to the wide demand for showy salon music, Sarasate composed four books of Spanish Dances between 1878 and 1882. The first piece of the sets, a malagueña, opens with a melody on the G string, quickly followed by a a lively passage that shows off the violinist's speed and agility with pizzicati. (17474)
