Mitropoulos, Dimitri. (1896–1960)

Signed Photograph to Raymond Lewenthal

Signed photograph of the important Greek conductor, who is shown leaning on his left hand and has signed and inscribed at the upper left: "To Raymond Lewental in remembrance of our collaboration very appreciatively. Dimitri Mitropoulos, 1948." Stamped on the verso by the photographer, Susan Hoeller. Some light toning and wear; overall fine. 8 x 10 inches (20.1 x 25.3 cm).

Pianist Raymond Lewenthal (1923–1988) was an American pianist. Lewenthal made his debut in 1948 with Dimitri Mitropoulos and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The occasion marked the first time a soloist had been invited to play Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 under Mitropoulos's direction—that being a work which the conductor was famous for playing himself.  (17300)
