A scarce signed postcard photograph from the great French baritone, widely considered to be the finest of the generation after Lassalle and Maurel. Shown in costume as Vasco da Gama in Meyerbeer's "L'Africana."Creator of several Reyer and Massenet roles, he had an enormous repetoire that included Mozart, Verdi, Berlioz, Wagner, Saint-Saens, Massenet etc. and he left a number of fine recordings. He was a regular at the Opera-Comique and also performed at Covent Garden and for several years at the Manhattan Opera and the Metropolitan. (1720)
