Williams, Tennessee. (1911–1983)

Memoirs - SIGNED

New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc.. 1975. First Edition. Memoirs of the important playwright, inscribed and signed by Williams on the title. 264 pp., illus. 8vo. Hardcover, orange and black boards with marble-patterned dust jacket. Edge wear and some small tears to the dust jacket but otherwise fine.

When Memoirs was first published in 1975, it created quite a bit of turbulence in the media - though long self-identified as a gay man, Williams' candor about his love life, sexual encounters, and drug use was found shocking in and of itself, and such revelations by America's greatest living playwright were called "a raw display of private life" by The New York Times Book Review.

From the library of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
