Two 1970 Tickets
Two tickets from the April 9–12, 1970 performance of the Grateful Dead and the Miles Davis Quintet at Fillmore West, San Francisco. Very fine. Each 2.5 x 4.5 inches (6.3 x 11.4 cm).It was a memorable moment of cultural interchange when Miles Davis opened for the Grateful Dead in April 1970: jazz and acid rock colliding as Davis experimented with new compositional forms. In his autobiography, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead recalled: “As I listened, leaning over the amps with my jaw hanging agape, trying to comprehend the forces that Miles was unleashing onstage, I was thinking What’s the use. How can we possibly play after this? […] With this band, Miles literally invented fusion music. In some ways it was similar to what we were trying to do in our free jamming, but ever so much more dense with ideas – and seemingly controlled with an iron fist, even at its most alarmingly intense moments.” (17132)
