Sammelband of Nineteenth-Century Popular Song

A large sammelband of sheet music to popular songs and piano pieces published in the United States, ca. 1830's–1870's. The volume contains approx. 50 items of music loosely bound in half leather, with leather ownership label of Helen M. Lough to the front board. Of the items included, particularly interesting are an early edition of Stephen Foster's "Ellen Bayne" (New York: Published by Firth, Pond & Co, 547 Broadway, [1854]); the "Whispering Schottisch" for piano solo by James E. Magruder, with lithograph title of two girls embracing (Baltimore: Published by Henry McCaffrey, No. 205 Baltimore St., [1863]); "Col. Clark's Grand Triumphant March," a piano piece by J. T. Wamelink dedicated to the 123 Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers and with a portrait of Union Colonel John B. Clark to the title (Cleveland: Published by S. Brainard & Co., [1862]); and the "St. Louis Grand March" by G. H. Draper, dedicated to the St. Louis Greys (St. Louis: Published by N. Phillips, 42 Market St, [1839]). Heavy wear to the binding, with front board and spine detached, most signatures loose; some foxing and toning throughout; overall good. 10.5 x 14 inches. (17073)
