Lenz, Max. (1850–1932)

Autograph Letter

Autograph letter from the important German historian and academic, to an old friend, apparently the violinist Waldemar Meyer (originally obtained from a collection of letters addressed to him by name). 2 pp. Hamburg, January 22, 1925. Translated from the German, in part: "Dear friend! My wife and I thank you heartily for the kind Christmas gift that you have given us with your "Memoirs," from your long and successful career as an artist. They were also for us memories of the happy hours which your art gave us for many years; of the music which you enjoyed in our own house and so often in the concert hall, alone or with your quartet colleagues [...] Both our days are drawing to an end; it is the evening for both of us, but your music will accompany you, as my scholarship does me, as long as it is still day. As a small gift in return, I am taking the liberty of sending you the foreword to the 4th edition of my Napoleon biography..." Folding creases with two small tears; overall very good. 7.5 x 10.75 inches (19.3 x 27.2 cm). (16855)
