Autograph Signature with Photograph

Autograph signature from the pioneering weightlifter and bodybuilder, attractively matted together with a reproduction photograph of Sandow posing in his animal-skin tunic and Grecian sandals. Slight blot to the signature, with a folding crease in the center; overall fine. Signature approx. 4 x 1.5 inches (10.5 x 4 cm), matted to an overall size of 9 x 12 inches.

Now known as the "father of modern bodybuilding," Eugen Sandow was a German strongman who starred in the Ziegfeld Follies, circuses, and the 1893 Columbian Exposition. He is credited with beginning the modern revival of interest in bodybuilding, and his popularity led to the ubiquity of "strongmen" in traveling shows and circuses—many of whom, unlike him, used fake weights!
