Carte de visite photograph of the important Polish violinist and composer, who is shown in profile to the left with his arms folded. Photographed by Vesenberg of St. Petersburg. Light toning and some spots; overall fine. 2.5 x 4 inches (6.5 x 10.5 cm).

Wieniawski moved to St. Petersburg in 1860, at the invitation of Anton Rubinstein. There he taught many students and directed the Russian Musical Society's orchestra and string quartet. He remained in St. Petersburg until 1874, when he went on tour to the United States with Rubinstein. (16579)
