Stravinsky, Igor. (1882–1971) & Ansermet, Ernest. (1883–1969) & Meyerhold, Vsevolod. (1874–1940)

Original Photograph

Original photograph, ca. 1920, of Stravinsky (front row right) together with Swiss conductor Ernest Ansermet (back row center), Russian director Vsevolod Meyerhold (back row right), and another man and woman. Although a note on the mat identifies the woman as English composer Elizabeth Lutyens, we believe this is erroneous. Visible size 1.75 x 2.5 inches (4.3 x 6.7 cm), matted to 4.25 x 5.25 inches and tipped to a larger sheet (could be removed.) Mat toned with tape remnants, but otherwise fine.

Conductor Ernest Ansermet had a lifelong association with Stravinsky's work, beginning from their first meeting during World War I. His orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, toured with and recorded many of Stravinsky's works from 1918 on. Meyerhold, whose early experimental period coincided with Stravinsky's years in St Petersburg, produced Stravinsky's opera Le Rossignol at the Mariinsky Theatre in May 1918. (16561)
