Hugo, Victor. (1802–1885)

Three Original CDV Photographs

Group of three original carte de visite photographs of the important French writer. Included are a portrait of Hugo seated by Pierre Petit; an oval portrait by Nadar, printed with Hugo's dates of birth and death; and a photograph of Hugo in an ornately decorated room, by Arsène Garnier of Guernesey.

Hugo lived on the island of Guernesey from 1855 to 1870, and again from 1872 to 1873. There, he became friends with the photographer Arsène Garnier, who photographed him frequently, not only in portraits but also with family members and friends. (16469)
