Original copper plate portrait engraving of the important French dancer, choreographer and dance master. A half length portrait of Pecour,elegantly dressed and wearing a plumed cap, pointing with his right hand at his opened notebook with a choreography. The engraving by Chéreau after the painting by R. Fourniere. On laid paper, no watermark visible. A very fresh and clean impression, small creases within the image and to edges, overall fine. 28.3 x 42 cm. In 1671, Pecour made his debut as a dancer at the Court Theatre, Tuileries in Paris and at the Paris Opera in the ballet Cadmus. Pecourt became a leading dancer with the Paris Opera, creating many roles in works composed by Lully and choreographed by Beauchamps, including Le Triomphe de l'amour, Le Temple de la paix, and Armide. Pecour was noted for his precision, lightness and grace. (16435)
