Signed Photograph

Original promotional photograph of the renowned string quartet, boldly signed by all four members in 1970: Zoltán Székely, Mihály (Michael) Kuttner, Dénes Koromzay and Gábor (Gabriel) Magyar. Inscribed at the head of the photograph in Spanish to the German-Argentinian concert promoter Gerhard Uhlfelder and dated 1970. Some light edge wear and scratches; overall fine. 10 x 8 inches (25.3 x 20.6 cm).

Geraldo Uhlfelder was the founder of the concert agency "Organización de Conciertos Gérard" in Buenos Aires, Argentine. Uhlfelder emigrated to Argentina in 1938 and founded his agency in 1948. He published his memoirs in 1990 with the title "Allegro ma non troppo."

The Hungarian Quartet had made its debut in 1935, and met with swift success. Székely was a friend and sonata partner of Béla Bartók, and the group became rapidly known by giving the Hungarian première performance of the Bartók 5th Quartet, which it studied with the composer. By 1938, the group had been heard in every major city of Western Europe.  (16363)
