Kreisler, Fritz. (1875–1962)

Original Dinner Menu from his Fiftieth Birthday

Amusing original menu from a dinner given in honor of the legendary violinist's fiftieth birthday on February 21, 1925. Hosted by the New York musicians' club The Bohemians, the dinner took place at the Harvard Club and paired a series of courses with "Beer / Two Beer / One More Beer / And Beer / Now comes Beer..." The verso shows the evening's entertainment: Kreisler's Quartet in A minor, performed by the New York String Quartet. Graphically striking design in red and black on handmade paper, with vertical folding crease, heavy toning, foxing and some holes. Overall very good. 9 x 7.25 inches (23 x 18.3 cm).

From the collection of Czech-American violinist Jaroslav Siskovksy, a student of Leopold Auer who went on to be a founding member of the New York String Quartet, with Ottokar Čadek, Bedrich Váška and Ludvik Schwab. (16237)
