Strauss II, Johann. (1825–1899) & Deutsch, Adele. (1856–1930)

Autograph Musical Quotation, Signed by his Wife

Autograph musical quotation of three measures in pencil from the "Waltz King," identified below in ink as his autograph by his third wife, Adele Deutsch. She has penned (translated from the German): "That the above bars were written by my husband, Johann Strauss, I confirm with my signature / Frau Johann Strauss / Vienna, October 1927." Folding crease and light toning; overall fine. 8.25 x 6.25 inches (21 x 16 cm), tipped to a slightly larger mount.

Strauss married his third wife, the much younger Adele Deutsch, in August 1887. She encouraged his creative talent to flow once more in his later years, resulting in many famous compositions, such as the operettas Der Zigeunerbaron and Waldmeister. She lived until 1930. (16226)
