Two Original Photographs

Two original photographs of the great jazz pianist, bandleader and composer, shown together with fellow orchestra leader and Columbia Records musical director Mitchell Ayres in 1946. The two are shown in the studio, in conversation at the keyboard and smoking together in the recording booth. Some light surface wear; overall fine. 9 x 7 inches (22.8 x 18 cm).

Mitchell Ayres was an orchestra leader, music arranger, composer and performer. He is best known for his many years of work with Perry Como on radio, records, and television and as the musical conductor for The Hollywood Palace. Beginning during the 1940's, he also worked for Columbia Records as a musical director, working with Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Pearl Bailey, and others. Basie was associated with Columbia Records from 1936 to 1950, making a large number of recordings both with small groups and with his Count Basie Orchestra. (16178)
