Original doubleweight photograph of a jam session taking place at the Hot Club of France Headquarters in Paris, 1939. Django Reinhardt (seated at the left) looks up at cornettist Rex Stewart, while Duke Ellington smiles over his glass of wine in the center and further members of the Quintette du Hot Club de France, including bassist Louis Vola, Django's brother Joseph Reinhardt, Pierre Ferret, and Max Geldray join in. The players and occasion are identified on the verso, with a stamp from the Frank Driggs Collection. Some light edge wear; overall fine. 9.75 x 8 inches (25 x 20 cm).

The Quintette du Hot Club de France was a jazz group founded in France in 1934 by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli, and active in one form or another until 1948. Their most famous lineup featured Reinhardt, Grappelli, bassist Louis Vola, and rhythm guitarists Roger Chaput and Joseph Reinhardt (Django's brother). The Hot Club of France frequently invited prominent US musicians to perform in Paris with local musicians. (16176)
