Morini, Erica. (1904–1995)

Original Portrait Photograph

Original portrait photograph of the important Austrian violinist who made her later career in the United States, ca. 1936. Press clipping and stamps to the verso, slight tracing to the edges of the figure for publication, trimmed to  6.5 x 8.5 inches; 15/5 x 21.5 cm.

A student of Ottokar Sevcik, Morini made her Berlin debut under Nikisch in 1917. One of the finest violinists of the 20th century, she was the first woman to record many concerto repertoire staples, including Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. The elderly Kreisler said Morini performed his pieces better than he ever had and Heifetz apparently turned to Morini for coaching on his staccato-playing! (16123)
