Original CDV photograph of the Canadian giantess Anna Haining Bates (née Swan), shown with two shorter people, apparently her parents. She is identified in pencil on the verso. Mounted on a small piece of paper with a photocopy of the verso. In fine condition. 2.5 x 4 inches (6.2 x 10 cm).

Born to Canadian immigrants in Nova Scotia, Anna Swan grew to the height of almost 8 feet by the time she was a teenager. She worked for P. T. Barnum at his New York "museum," and later married another giant, Martin van Buren Bates. She died prematurely at age 41. (16090)
