[Beatles] Avedon, Richard. (1923–2004)

1967 Richard Avedon First-Edition Psychedelic Beatles Posters - Complete Set of Four

Complete set of four first-edition psychedelic Beatles posters created by noted photographer Richard Avedon in 1967, printed by the Daily Express in 1968. Also included is the corresponding black and white landscape photographic group portrait print, also by Avedon. The psychedelic posters each measure 18.5 x 27 inches, while the banner poster measures 14.5 x 40 inches. Pinholes, creases and tears, particularly to edges of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, several pieces of tape to borders of Lennon poster, banner poster exhibits an area of loss at the right edge; overall very good.

These posters were commissioned by NEMS, the Beatles' management company, with distribution rights granted to different parties based upon locality. LOOK magazine handled the distribution in the United States, the Daily Express Newspaper in England, and Stern magazine in Europe. All of the posters were printed in 1967, but different printers were used for each distribution locale. These images transcend typical music memorabilia and are sought-after today both by fans of the group, and by collectors of fine art and fashion photography.  (15918)
