Thibaud, Jacques. (1880–1953)

Plaster Cast of Thibaud's Left Hand Playing Position

An original plaster cast of a violinist's left hand, captured in playing position, believed to be cast from the hand of the great violinist Jacques Thibaud. Created by the Chirothèque Française. Repairs to four of the fingers; some soiling. Approx. 24 x 17 cm.

The instrument used to position Thibaud's hand may have been the 1720 Stradivarius on which he performed, and which was destroyed in the plane crash which took his life in 1953.

Provenance: from the collection of the Parisian art dealer and collector Michel de Bry, who was also active as a jazz promoter. (15698)
