A very fine cabinet photograph by Mora of Boston of the great French tenor, creator of Offenbach's Vert-Vert and Masse's Paul et Virginie. Edith Wharton describes him in a performance of Faust at the Metropolitan (with Christine Nilsson) in the first chapter of The Age of Innocence, "vainly trying, in a tight purple velvet doublet and plumed cap, to look as pure and true as his artless victim."4.25 x 6.25 inches (11 x 16.5 cm).Stamps to verso, in very fine condition.
