Signed Photograph with Autograph Musical Quotation

A detailed AMQS from the American composer and music teacher, recipient of the 1927 Pulitzer Prize, penned at the foot of a signed photograph. Finney is shown at work on a large score, smoking a pipe with a ruler and several sharpened pencils to hand; he has signed in black ink at the foot of the image. He has penned eight measures from his Violin Concerto no. 2 (1973). A list of his compositions is printed on the verso. Some light corner wear; overall fine. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.6 x 28 cm).

Other awards followed the Pulitzer, including two Guggenheim fellowships, the Boston Symphony Award, the Brandeis Medal and election to both the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Finney's works include eight string quartets, four symphonies, numerous chamber works and song cycles, two stage works, and an unfinished opera. (15629)
