Signed Typescript of Composer Remembrances

Signed typed document from the important American composer and critic, containing short texts in memory of Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Kurt Weill, and Bela Bartok. The remembrances were published in the New York Herald Tribune, where Thomson was the chief music critic, in 1947–1950, and later reprinted in his 1951 collection Music Right and Left. Each article is a respectful and affectionate hommage to a great composer, written for a general audience with Thomson's customary clarity and humor (Bartok, he writes, "came to lose his taste for paprika but not for humanity.") He has signed at the foot of the last page and added "N. Y. Herald Tribune." 18 looseleaf pages. In very fine condition. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.6 x 27.8 cm). (15515)
