"Can you find out about choruses in USA? According to what Percy Grainger told me there are crowds of them." - Two Autograph Letters

Two autograph letters regarding publishing from the influential English composer and pianist, one mentioning Percy Grainger. In the first letter (October 25, 1923; 2 pp.), to the Boosey and Co. music editor Mr. [Herbert] Hughes, Scott writes: "I shall be very glad to consider Boosey's offer—especially as it is under your editorship. But will they kindly let me know what terms they suggest i.e. what price they will mark the pieces & what royalty. I always get 3d on the piano piece of usual length." In the second letter (October 23, 1931; 1 p.), to a Mr. Leslie, possibly also at Boosey music publisher, Scott writes: "Re: that cantata—I've just remembered the American market. Can you find out about choruses in USA? According to what Percy Grainger told me there are crowds of them." Folding creases; overall in very fine condition. 7 x 9 inches (17.6 x 22.7 cm) and 8 x 10 inches (20.4 x 25.4 cm).

Called the "Father of modern British music" by Eugene Goossens, Cyril Scott composed in a late Romantic style, strongly influenced by impressionism. His large output of over four hundred works has often been neglected, until the early 2000's when it enjoyed a revival. (15513)
