Enescu is shown in a reflective pose holding his violin, and has penned along the lower margin (translated from the French): "For Madame Chailley, with all the loyal and respectful friendship of the author of the sonata in the Romanian Character, gratefully, Georges Enesco. 1947." Inscription a shade light, some crackling and light surface wear to the image, with small mounting remnants to the verso, but otherwise overall in fine condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.2 x 25.7 cm).
Born to a musical family in 1894, pianist and teacher Céliny Chailley-Richez was a star student at the Conservatoire de Paris before marrying violinist Marcel Chailley in 1908.
