Signed Photograph

Signed photograph of the masterful French violinist, dated July 7, 1927. Thibaud is shown seated on a bench, holding his gloves in his hand, and has boldly signed and inscribed over the image to French pianist and pedagogue Céliny Chailley-Richez (translated from the French): "With all my old sincere friendship and my very great admiration to Madame C. Chailley." Photographed by Joaillier Frères of Paris. Mounting remnants to the verso; otherwise overall in fine condition. 8 x 6.75 inches (20.7 x 17.1 cm).

Born to a musical family in 1894, pianist and teacher Céliny Chailley-Richez was a star student at the Conservatoire de Paris before marrying violinist Marcel Chailley in 1908. Together, the couple led summer music courses at their home in Seignelay, where students included Ivry Gitlis, Lola Bobesco and Denise Soriano. Chailley-Richez had a long friendship and musical partnership with Georges Enescu, and was associated with many important French musicians of the era. She died in 1973. (15430)
