Engraved Sterling Silver Alarm Clock

Sterling silver folding travel alarm clock, presented to the American mezzo-soprano by the Metropolitan Opera Association on her twentieth anniversary of singing at the Met. Engraved on the case: "RISË STEVENS, 1938–1958. WITH WARM APPRECIATION, METROPOLITAN OPERA ASSOCIATION." The dial signed Lambert Brothers, 8 day Swiss. 3 x 2.5 inches (7.6 x 6.4 cm).

The American operatic mezzo-soprano Risë Stevens sang for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City for more than two decades during the 1940's and 1950's. Enjoying an enormous personal triumph at the Metropolitan in the famous Tyrone Guthrie production of Bizet's Carmen in 1951, she became best-known as the leading Carmen of her generation. (15399)
