Signed Letter about the Rossini Commemoration

Autograph letter in a secretarial hand about the 1892 La Scala concert to commemorate Rossini's 100th birthday, signed by the influential Italian publisher. March 20, 1892. Addressed to conductor Pietro Nepoti, the letter asks his permission "to allow his very worthy and appreciated work to be used for the best outcome of the ceremony which is in preparation, assuring thereby a double merit—towards art and towards charity." On letterhead of the Associazione Lombara dei Giornalisi, Commemorazione Rossiniana and signed by Ricordi at the foot on behalf of the Committee. 1 p. of a bifolium, heavy horizontal folding crease, small edge tears and overall toning; overall in very good condition. 8.75 x 11 inches (22 x 28 cm).

The concert commemorating Rossini's centennial was given at La Scala on April 8, 1892. Verdi himself was present and conducted the Prayer from Rossini's Mosé in Egitto. (15327)
