Walter, Bruno. (1876–1962)

"How could I be expected to prepare these giant pieces in so few days with any other orchestra?" - Autograph Letter

An interesting autograph letter from the great conductor, discussing details of upcoming concerts in Paris. London, May 18, 1929. To a Herr Hoffmann, Walter writes (translated from the German): "What I reported after Berlin was not mistaken. London on January 28/29 is firm. Thank you for the travel dates—as I've said, my cousin can take care of that. Champs-Elysée Tristan or Walküre impossible unless with the orchestra of the Opéra. How could I be expected to prepare these giant pieces in so few days with any other orchestra? I'd suggest three concerts in Paris (Mahler's 2nd, Verdi Requiem, Mozart evening—or classical program), one concert in Cannes and in Monte Carlo, that's five evenings right there." 2 pp. on letterhead of the Waldorf Hotel. In very fine condition. 4.5 x 7 inches (11.3 x 18 cm). (15298)
