Silver Plated Paramount Pictures Bowl

An attractive silver plated bowl with liner, engraved "Paramount Pictures Corporation," by Reed and Barton, from the collection of the Heifetz family. 23 cm in diameter.

Jascha Heifetz' son Jay, a photographer, previously served as the CFO of Paramount Pictures' Worldwide Video Division.

In later years, the great violinist enjoyed inviting his students to parties at his home in Malibu. Although the parties were light-hearted, Heifetz kept things the way he wanted them. Ayke Agus remembers: "All these parties were run on rigorously kept schedules [...] he appointed someone to be his 'fireman' whose duty was to take care of the fire in the fireplace. All sorts of tools necessary or unnecessary for this job, including a fireman's hat, hung over the fireplace, and all tools had their appointed places. If someone moved them an inch to the left or to the right, he put them back in their proper place and reminded the fireman and everybody else within earshot of their proper position." Although we do not know exactly when this bowl came into the family, we like to imagine some similarly rigid rules surrounded its use! (15254)
