An original photograph of the celebrated string quartet in action, inscribed at the head to Dr. [Benno] Lee and signed at the foot by all four members (Paolo Borciani, first violin;  Elisa Pegreffi, second violin; Franco Rossi, cello;and Piero Farulli, viola) and dated December 1953. A note on the verso in another hand dates the signatures to December 12, 1953 at Hunter College, New York. Mounting remnants on the verso, somewhat poor contrast to some of the signatures but overall in fine condition. 10 x 8 inches (25.5 x 20.7 cm).

Founded in 1945 in Reggio Emilia, the Quartetto Italiano had a long and influential presence both in Italy and internationally. The group is particularly noted for its recording of the complete Beethoven string quartets, made between 1967 and 1975. (15228)
