Berlioz had 1,200 copies of the Mémoires printed in 1865 and kept in his office at the Conservatoire. He gave several copies away during his lifetime; the remainder (the present copy being one), however, were not released for publication until 1870. The original frontispiece photograph of Berlioz includes a facsimile of a musical quotation from the Symphonie Fantastique. (15199)
