Signed Letter

An interesting letter from the important American conductor and cellist, signed "Hans Kindler." One page, May 11, 1940. Kindler recommends a cellist, Ernst Wassing, who "has been known to me for many years as an excellent cellist and musician." Mounting traces, slight smudge to 2 letters in last name, some penned notes, presumably by Mr. Wassing. Sold together with a vintage 8 x 10 inch RCA Victor portrait photograph.


Kindler was principal cellist of the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years and gave first performances of works by Ravel, Schoenberg and Busoni, who dedicated an arrangement of Bach's Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue for cello/piano to him. He founded the National Symphony Orchestra in 1931 and was its conductor until 1949. (1518)
