Signed Photograph and Typed Letter Signed

Striking signed photograph of the De Paur Infantry Chorus, boldly signed by the group's director, the African American composer and choral conductor. He has signed in green ink at the upper left corner and dated 1953. Together with a typed letter dated June 20, 1953 enclosing the photograph and apologizing for the delay due to touring, signed by De Paur, and the original envelope. Photograph 10 x 8 inches; letter 7 x 10 inches.

De Paur enlisted in the Army in 1942 and became the music director of the play, Winged Victory. During a stint in the infantry, he was assigned to an all male-chorus and in 1946, the De Paur Infantry Chorus was signed to Columbia Artists Management and Columbia Records where for ten years the De Paur Infantry Chorus was the top performing group. In 1957, De Paur discontinued the chorus and produced the De Paur Opera Gala, which featured Virgil Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts, George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Oscar Hammerstein's Carmen Jones.
