The Art of Lubov Tchernicheva - SIGNED

London: C. W. Beaumont. 1921. The Art of Lubov Tchernicheva, including a portrait by Glyn Philpot and eight full page hand-coloured plates, two decorations and cover design by Vera Petrovna, together with an appreciation by Cyril W. Beaumont. A scarce collection of vibrant images of the great beauty and Ballets Russes star, this copy inscribed by Tchernicheva on the ffe: "Chere Mademoiselle, gardez cette 'Tchernicheva' en mon absence." Wrapper edges worn with small tears, small pin-hole to the bottom right corner throughout (not affecting text or illustrations); internally very good. 28 x 33 cm. Scarce. ABPC records only one copy to appear at auction in the last thirty years.

Tchernicheva trained in Russia, then danced with Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes from 1911 to 1929.  She was married to Sergei Grigoriev, the company Regisseur. She attempted to retire in 1929, but in 1932 Rene Blum coaxed her back to continue dancing as first ballerina and serve as ballet mistress for Col. de Basil’s Ballets Russes. The couple worked for the Col. de Basil Ballets Russes troupe from 1932 to 1952.  (15065)
