Ray, Johnnie. (1927-1990)

Two Signed Photographs

Pair of unusual signed concert photographs from the American pop singer and pianist, a 1950's sensation who was an important precursor to rock and roll stars. Ray is shown performing at the piano for an audience of teenage girls and has signed and inscribed each photo to photographer Nat Singerman: "Thanks Nat / Johnnie Ray." Medium contrast to the signatures but in fine condition overall. 10 x 8 inches (25.6 x 20.3 cm).

From the collection of Nat Singerman, a professional photographer and co-owner of Character Arts Photo Studio in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1940's and 1950's. During this period he met and befriended many jazz legends who performed at clubs in and around Cleveland and Chicago. He took many photographs of performances as well as numerous candid shots taken backstage. He also hosted jam sessions and dinners at his studio where other images from the archive were shot. He collected signatures from many of his jazz musician friends. (15061)
