Jumbo Signed Cabinet Photograph

Large jumbo format cabinet photograph of the great bass and brother of Jean de Reszke by Aimé Dupont, boldly signed and inscribed upper left "To dear old Max with affectionate regard from his friend Edouard de Reszke 1900." 10.75 x 13.75 inches [27.2 x 35 cm]. In fine condition. 

Reszke's vast repertory included major Wagner roles, Mephistopheles, Friar Laurence, Don Pedro (L'Africaine), Rocco and Leporello, which he sang at a special centenary performance of Don Giovanni at the Opera in 1887. The present photograph may be inscribed to the Wagnerian tenor Max Schlosser, creator of the roles of David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (1868), Mime in Das Rheingold (1869), and The Messenger in the posthumous premiere of Wagner's early opera Die Feen (1888). Schlosser also sang Mime at Bayreuth in the first complete performance of The Ring Cycle (1876) and in the cycle's first complete performance in London (1882). (15029)
