Tetrazzini, Luisa. (1871–1940)

Autograph New Year's Postcard

Autograph postcard from the legendary coloratura soprano, who has elegantly penned "A Happy New Year from Luisa Tetrazzini" and dated New York, December 31, 1930. On a card with a small colored image of figures in a car. With the original envelope addressed by typewriter to a collector in Cuba and postmarked December 31. 13.5 x 7.5 cm.

Called “The Florentine Nightingale,” she was extremely popular in the United States and was a star of the San Francisco Opera. The famous dish "Chicken Tetrazzini" was named for her, though sources differ as to whether it was created in San Francisco or by Chef George A. Escoffier of The Savoy in London. (15018)
