Autograph letter signed from the important English poet to a Miss Budden, apologizing for missing their meeting and inviting her to come for lunch the following week. Warwick Crescent [London], June 28, 1879. 1 page. 8vo, single-sheet folded with conjugate blank. Folding creases and some light toning; overall in very fine condition. 4.5 x 7 inches (11.2 x 17.7 cm).

Text, in full: "Dear Miss Budden, I fear I have made a strange mistake—I supposed your visit to the Academy was to take place next week—as you spoke of excluding 'Wednesday' from your available days, and only on Monday did you letter reach me: I was in the thick of engagements at the time. You must forgive me. Would it be possible for you to take luncheon here next Wednesday at 1 o'clock? My sister & I will be delighted if you can do so—finding it worthwhile to come so far for so little! Ever truly yours, Robert Browning." (14925)
