Beethoven's String Trio in E-flat, op. 3, was first sketched while the composer was living in Bonn. His first composition for string trio, it was modeled after Mozart's great Divertimento in the same key, with a similar form of six movements. It brought the young Beethoven (only 27 at the time) international recognition.

The Italian music publisher Tranquillo Mollo (1767 - 1837) was first employed by the firm of Artaria in Vienna and in 1793 was made a partner. After leaving Artaria, he and Domenico Artaria (III) founded the firm of T. Mollo & Co. in July 1798 and subsequently issued first editions of many of Beethoven's works.  (14921)
