Signed book from the influential modern dancer and choreographer, founder with his wife Ruth St. Denis of the Denishawn dance company and of the Jacob's Pillow dance festival. He has signed and inscribed on the front free endpaper to Paul McMahon and dated Jacob's Pillow, July 1, 1961; the book has also been inscribed to McMahon on the page of the preface by Jacob's Pillow photographer John Lindquist. The volume contains lectures delivered by Shawn at the George Peabody College for Teachers in 1938, first published in 1940 and republished with illustrations in 1950. 148 pp. Softcover; light toning and a few scratches to the wrappers; overall in fine condition. 8.25 x 11 inches (21 x 28 cm).
