Striking original 1956 photograph of the important jazz trumpeter, looking delighted to be riding a camel in Pakistan. (We've also noticed that his fly is unbuttoned!) Slight wrinkling and staple holes at the corners. 8 x 10 inches.Gillespie visited Pakistan as part of a 1956 State Department-organized tour that included stops in Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon, Yugoslavia, Turkey and Greece. He was a hit with audiences, and later described by Newsweek as "an extraordinary kind of roving American ambassador of goodwill." (14693)
