Photograph of the pianist Henriette Hemala with Johannes Brahms at the entrance gate of Villa Miller-Aichholz, ca. 1890's. Brahms is shown squeezing Hemala warmly around the shoulders, while she smiles delightedly. A later printing by photographer Paul Frankenstein of Vienna, with the photographer's stamp on the verso. 6 x 8.5 inches (15 x 21.7 cm), tipped to a mount of 9 x 12 inches (22.8 x 30.6 cm).


A pupil of Julius Epstein, the young pianist Henriette Hemala was a friend of Brahms, Epstein, Hanslick, Heuberger and Joachim, with whom she played the Brahms A Major Sonata, op.100. (14663)
