Korngold, Erich Wolfgang. (1897-1957) [Hoffmann, R. St.]

Erich Wolfgang Korngold - SIGNED BY COMPOSER WITH A MUSICAL QUOTATION FROM "DIE TOTE STADT"

Wien: Carl Stephenson Verlag. Mai, 1922. Dritte Auflage. 130 pp. 8vo. Original blue boards, stamped in gilt. Signed by Korngold on the ffe verso opposite the title page to Herrn Kurt Wiesend, adding the date of 1929 and penning a bold two-measure AMQS from "Die Tote Stadt." Boards toned and with a few stains, corners and edges a bit rough, pages toned as usual, overall a very good copy.

The first published book on one of the last great Romantic composers, containing a particularly good autograph quotation from the composer's great opera based on symbolist Georges Rodenbach’s phantasmagoric novel Bruges-la-morte. Composed by Korngold when he was just 23, its tremendous success heralded him as one of German opera's most promising talents. (14615)
