Collection of Signed Menus from Dinners of the "Ballet Club de Paris"

An interesting collection of 6 menus from dinners given by the "Ballet Club de Paris" in 1959-1961, one signed by Léonide Massine at a dinner given in his honor. Three of the programs have been autographed by other important Russian and French dancers and choreographers, including Serge Golovine, Claire Motte, Georges Goviloff, Lycette Darsonval, Madeleine Lafon, Jacqueline Rayet, and many others. The folded cards, each with an identical cover design from the restaurant "Le Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées," have hand-written or mimeographed menus on the inside pages. Dated July 7, 1959; October 2, 1959; February 11, 1960 (dinner in honor of the principle dancers of the Théâtre National de l'Opéra); November 10, 1960 (dinner in honor of Leonide Massine); November 22, 1960 (dinner in honor of the Marquis de Cuevas and the principle dancers of his Grand Ballet); and May 25, 1961 (dinner in honor of the Ballets de l'Opéra de Léningrad).

From 1915 to 1921 Massine was the principal choreographer of the Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, and after the departure of Vaslav Nijinsky, he became the preeminent male star and took over Nijinsky's roles. When Diaghilev died, Massine helped revitalize the world of ballet by his involvement with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo. After leaving the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo in 1942, he began an international career as a guest choreographer and dancer, and also had a career in film, notably in The Red Shoes and The Tales of Hoffmann.
