Reduction for two pianos of the enduringly popular piano concerto, signed on the cover by the Ukrainian pianist Benno Moiseiwitsch and by pianists Moura Lympany, Colin Horsley and Cor de Groot on the inside cover. [PN] 15209. 63 pp. Original wrappers almost completely detached with heavy wear to the spine; internal pages in fine condition. A bold signature and overall in very good condition. 9.25 x 12.25 inches (23.5 x 31 cm).The superb pianist Benno Moiseiwitsch was particularly known for his interpretations of the late Romantic repertoire, especially the works of Sergei Rachmaninoff (who was an admirer of his playing and referred to Moiseiwitsch as his "spiritual heir"). At the piano, Moiseiwitsch was noted for his elegance, poetry, lyrical phrasing, brilliance, rhythmic freedom, and relaxed virtuosity. He recorded the Second Piano Concerto several times, including twice with the Philharmonia Orchestra, in 1937 and 1955. He also played excerpts from the work in the film Battle for Music (1945), which chronicled the struggles of the London Philharmonic to stay together through World War II. (14479)
